Subtitle Forum: Which Prophet Announced the Coming of Prophet Muhammad

The Qur'an mentions that prophets before Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) have foretold of his coming. But which prophets did this?

Prophet Abraham (peace be upon him)

Prophet Abraham (peace be upon him) is thought to be the first prophet to mention the coming of Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him). In the Qur'an, Allah says:

“And when Abraham prayed: ‘My Lord, make this a city of peace and provide its people with fruits - such of them as believe in Allah and the Last Day’” (2:126).

This prayer of Prophet Abraham (peace be upon him) was for the city of Makkah, which would eventually become the birthplace of Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him).

Prophet Moses (peace be upon him)

The Qur'an also mentions that Prophet Moses (peace be upon him) also foretold the coming of Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him). In the Qur'an, Allah says:

“And We gave Moses the Book, so be not in doubt concerning the (Message) you receive, and We ordained for him in the Tablets admonition of all things, and explanation of all things” (7:145).

This verse is interpreted by scholars to mean that Prophet Moses (peace be upon him) was foretelling the coming of Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him).

Prophet Jesus (peace be upon him)

Similarly, the Qur'an mentions that Prophet Jesus (peace be upon him) also foretold the coming of Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him). In the Qur'an, Allah says:

“And (Jesus) shall be a Sign (for the coming of) the Hour (of Judgment): therefore have no doubt about the (Hour), but follow ye Me: this is a Straight Way” (43:61).

This verse is interpreted by scholars to mean that Prophet Jesus (peace be upon him) was foretelling the coming of Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him).

Conclusion

In conclusion, it is clear that prophets before Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) have foretold of his coming. Specifically, these prophets include Prophet Abraham (peace be upon him), Prophet Moses (peace be upon him), and Prophet Jesus (peace be upon him).

The main prophet who announced the coming of Prophet Muhammad was the Prophet Isa (Jesus) in the Bible. He is believed to have foretold Muhammad's coming in three different places in the Gospels; in the book of John, in the book of Matthew, and in the book of Luke. In the book of John, he is believed to have said: "I will not leave you comfortless: I will come to you.” In the book of Matthew, he prophesied: “I will send you a prophet from among your own people”. And in the book of Luke, he said “I will send my messenger ahead of you.” These three prophecies are believed to have been fulfilled in the coming of Prophet Muhammad.

The prophet who announced the coming of Prophet Muhammad (Peace Be Upon Him) was Prophet Muhammad (Peace Be Upon Him) himself, as recorded in the Islamic scripture, the Quran. This was revealed to him by Allah (Glorified and Exalted Be He) in verse 5:15 of the Quran, which reads: "Indeed, the example of Jesus to Allah is like that of Adam. He created Him from dust; then He said to him, ‘Be,’ and he was." This verse served as a prophecy of the coming of Prophet Muhammad (Peace Be Upon Him), who was sent to mankind as a mercy and a guide to the truth.

Q: Who was the first person to announce the coming of Prophet Muhammad?

A: The first person to announce the coming of Prophet Muhammad was the Archangel Gabriel, sometimes referred to as Jibril in Islamic tradition. He is one of the four archangels in Islamic belief and is believed to have appeared to the Prophet Muhammad in the Cave of Hira in 610 C.E. During this time, Gabriel revealed the first verses of the Qur'an, which was the beginning of the Islamic faith. In some traditions, it is believed that Gabriel also told the Prophet Muhammad of his upcoming mission as a messenger of Allah.
