Mary's Place of Residence in the Bible
The Bible does not specify where Mary, the mother of Jesus, lived. According to the New Testament, Mary was living in Nazareth in Galilee at the time of the Annunciation, when she was told she would be the mother of Jesus. She and her husband Joseph then traveled to Bethlehem in Judea, as directed by a decree from Caesar Augustus. After Jesus was born, they returned to Nazareth.
Mary's place of residence is also not specifically mentioned in the Old Testament. The Gospel of Luke states that Mary's parents, Joachim and Anne, were of the priestly line of David and lived in the hill country of Judea. However, it is not clear if Mary was born there or if she moved there later.
Mary's Place of Residence After Jesus' Crucifixion
After Jesus' crucifixion, Mary is believed to have returned to Jerusalem. She is said to have stayed in the upper room of the Cenacle, or the "Upper Room", with the Apostles and other disciples of Jesus.
The Bible does not specify Mary's place of residence after Jesus' death. However, some traditions suggest she traveled to Ephesus in Asia Minor (modern-day Turkey). There, she is believed to have lived in a house near the Temple of Artemis, where many early followers of Jesus gathered.
The Catholic Church holds that Mary eventually ascended bodily into heaven. This event is known as the Assumption of Mary.
