"Hello everyone! I'm hoping someone can help me out. I'm trying to find out what kills periodontal bacteria. I've heard about a few different methods, but I'm not sure which one is most effective. Does anyone have any experience with this? What have you used to kill periodontal bacteria before? Any advice or suggestions would be much appreciated.

Antibiotics

Antibiotics are commonly used to kill periodontal bacteria. The most common type of antibiotics used to treat periodontal disease is tetracycline. Other antibiotics such as amoxicillin, metronidazole, and clindamycin may also be prescribed. Antibiotics can be taken orally or applied topically to the affected area.

Chlorhexidine

Chlorhexidine is an antiseptic that is commonly used to kill periodontal bacteria. It is available in both mouthwash and gel form and can be used to reduce plaque and inhibit the growth of bacteria. Chlorhexidine can also be used to irrigate deep pockets in the gums to reduce the amount of bacteria present.

Doxycycline

Doxycycline is an antibiotic that is commonly used to treat periodontal disease. It is typically taken in the form of a capsule or tablet and can be used to reduce inflammation and kill bacteria. Doxycycline is usually taken twice daily for several weeks or months to achieve the desired results.

Surgical Treatments

In some cases, periodontal bacteria may be resistant to antibiotics or other treatments. In these cases, surgical treatments may be necessary to remove bacteria and to treat the underlying cause of the infection. Common surgeries used to treat periodontal disease include pocket reduction surgery, flap surgery, and bone grafting.

There are a variety of treatments that can kill periodontal bacteria. One of the most effective methods is deep cleaning, or scaling and root planing. This procedure involves removing plaque and tartar from below the gumline, as well as smoothing the tooth root to help prevent future buildup. Another option is a antibiotic mouth rinse, which can help reduce inflammation and bacteria. In severe cases, surgery may be required to remove the bacteria and repair damaged tissue. Lastly, good oral hygiene is key to preventing and reducing the growth of periodontal bacteria. This includes brushing and flossing twice a day, avoiding sugary foods, and visiting the dentist regularly.

Regular brushing helps to remove plaque and bacteria from the teeth and gums, while flossing helps to remove plaque and bacteria from in between the teeth. Mouthwash can also help to kill bacteria and help to keep the mouth clean. Additionally, regular dental visits are essential for maintaining good oral hygiene and can help to remove plaque and bacteria from the teeth and gums.
