Q: What is the difference between type 1 and type 2 chronic pancreatitis?

A: Type 1 chronic pancreatitis is an inflammatory disorder of the pancreas that results in irreversible destruction of the parenchyma, causing chronic pain, malabsorption, and diabetes. Type 2 chronic pancreatitis is a condition in which the pancreas becomes scarred and hardened due to recurrent episodes of acute pancreatitis, leading to pain, malabsorption, and diabetes. The primary difference between type 1 and type 2 chronic pancreatitis is the underlying cause. Type 1 is caused by excessive alcohol consumption or genetic mutations, whereas type 2 is caused by recurrent episodes of acute pancreatitis.
