Hey everyone,

I'm hoping someone can help me with a question I have about acute hemolytic transfusion reactions. What is the most common cause of an acute hemolytic transfusion reaction? I've done some research, but I'm struggling to find a definitive answer. Any advice or insight would be much appreciated!

Thanks in advance.

The most common cause of an acute hemolytic transfusion reaction is an incompatibility between the blood type of the donor and the recipient. This occurs when the donor has an ABO blood type that is different from that of the recipient, resulting in an immune reaction in the recipient's body. Other causes of acute hemolytic transfusion reaction include transfusion of an incorrect blood product, transfusion of expired or contaminated blood, or transfusion of an incompatible blood product. A rare but serious cause of an acute hemolytic transfusion reaction is an antibody-mediated reaction, in which the donor's blood contains antibodies that attack the recipient's red blood cells.
