I'm hoping someone can help me out. I'm trying to find out what the longest clinically dead person is. Does anyone know anything about this or have any information that could help me? I'm looking to find out who it was, how long they were clinically dead and any other information that could be related to this. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

The longest clinically dead person on record is a woman from the United Kingdom, 46-year-old Jahi McMath, who was declared legally brain dead in 2013. McMath went into cardiac arrest following a tonsillectomy and suffered anoxic brain damage due to a lack of oxygen to the brain. She was kept on a ventilator for more than five years before her death in 2018.

Clinical Death

Clinical death is the medical term for a person who has stopped breathing and has no pulse. It is defined as the absence of a heartbeat and respiration. Clinical death occurs when the brain stops functioning due to a lack of oxygen, which can happen in cases of cardiac arrest, drowning, or severe trauma.

Legal Brain Death

Legal brain death is a term used to describe the irreversible cessation of all brain activity, including the brain stem. It is determined by a team of doctors based on medical tests and evaluations. Legal brain death is considered the same as death, and the individual is no longer considered alive.

Jahi McMath

Jahi McMath was a 13-year-old girl from the United States who underwent a tonsillectomy at a California hospital in 2013. Following the surgery, she went into cardiac arrest and suffered anoxic brain damage due to a lack of oxygen. She was declared legally brain dead in 2013, and her family fought to keep her on a ventilator for more than five years before her death in 2018. Jahi McMath remains the longest clinically dead person on record.

The longest clinically dead person is Dr. Benson Jacobs, who was declared clinically dead in 1998 after suffering a heart attack. After 45 minutes of CPR, doctors were able to revive Jacobs, who went on to make a full recovery. Jacobs was clinically dead for a total of 78 minutes, making him the longest clinically dead person on record. Doctors attribute this extraordinary recovery to the quick and expert response of the medical team, as well as Jacobs’ strong will to live.

The longest clinically dead person to be revived was a French teenager named, Jean-Dominique Bauby. He suffered a massive stroke that left him paralyzed and unable to speak. Amazingly, he was able to communicate by blinking one eye and eventually wrote a book about his experience.
