I'm a new member of this forum and I'm looking for some help with a question. Does anyone know what impetigo is, and how it relates to my pet? I'm a veterinarian and I've never heard of this condition before. Can anyone provide some insight into what it is, how it's diagnosed, and how it's treated? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Impetigo, veterinarian is a bacterial infection of the skin that is usually caused by either Staphylococcus aureus or Streptococcus pyogenes bacteria. It is a highly contagious skin condition that can be spread by direct contact with an infected person or through contact with contaminated objects. Symptoms of impetigo include red sores that may ooze pus, blisters, and scabs. It is most common among children, but can occur in adults as well. Treatment for impetigo typically involves antibiotics, either in topical or oral form. A veterinarian can help diagnose and treat impetigo in pets, as well as provide advice on how to prevent it from spreading.
