Atypical pneumonia is a type of lower respiratory tract infection which is caused by atypical bacteria, rather than the usual cause of pneumonia (Streptococcus pneumoniae). It is usually less severe than the typical pneumonia. Atypical pneumonia is classified into three categories:
Mycoplasma Pneumoniae
Mycoplasma pneumoniae is the most common cause of atypical pneumonia. It is caused by the bacteria Mycoplasma pneumoniae, which is spread through respiratory droplets and direct contact with an infected person. Symptoms can include fever, chest pain, dry cough, sore throat, headache, and fatigue.
Chlamydia Pneumoniae
Chlamydia pneumonia is caused by the bacteria Chlamydia pneumoniae, which is spread through respiratory droplets and direct contact with an infected person. Symptoms can include fever, chest pain, dry cough, sore throat, headache, and fatigue.
Legionella Pneumoniae
Legionella pneumonia is caused by the bacteria Legionella pneumophila, which is found in water and soil. It is spread through inhalation of contaminated water droplets in the air. Symptoms can include fever, chills, cough, chest pain, headache, and fatigue.
