Fatty liver, also known as steatosis, is a condition caused by the build-up of fat in the liver which can lead to inflammation, scarring, and eventually liver failure. The condition can be caused by lifestyle factors such as excessive alcohol consumption, obesity, or poor diet, as well as some medical conditions such as diabetes and high cholesterol. Treatment for fatty liver usually involves lifestyle changes such as a healthy diet, regular exercise, and avoiding alcohol, as well as medications to reduce inflammation and scarring. In some cases, a liver transplant may be necessary. Even with treatment, the risk of long-term complications is still present.
