An orthokeratinized odontogenic cyst is an odontogenic cyst, or a cyst that is formed in the jawbone as a result of the formation of a tooth. This type of cyst is characterized by a layer of keratin, a type of protein, around the cyst wall. Orthokeratinized odontogenic cysts are usually found in the lower jaw and may cause pain and swelling if left untreated. Treatment typically involves surgical removal of the cyst and surrounding tissue. In some cases, antibiotics may also be prescribed to reduce the risk of infection.
