Hi everyone,

I'm new to the forum and I'm hoping to get some help and insight from others about Type 1 allergies. Can anyone explain to me what a Type 1 allergy is? I'm hearing a lot about it lately and I'm hoping to learn more about what it is and how to spot it.

Type 1 allergy, also known as immediate or anaphylactic hypersensitivity, is a severe, potentially life-threatening allergic reaction. It is caused by an immune system response to an allergen, such as a certain food, pollen, medication, or insect venom. Symptoms of a Type 1 allergy can include hives, swelling in the face and throat, difficulty breathing, and in some cases, anaphylactic shock. Treatment for a Type 1 allergy usually involves the use of epinephrine or antihistamines, avoidance of the allergen, and in some cases, immunotherapy.
