"Hi everyone,

I'm new to this forum and I'm hoping someone can help me understand what mammographic calcification is. I've heard of it in relation to mammograms, but I'm struggling to understand what it is and why it's important.

Mammographic Calcification is a term used to describe deposits of calcium in breast tissue that appear as white spots on a mammogram. The presence of these deposits can be a sign of a benign or malignant growth in the breast. Calcifications can also be caused by normal aging processes or other non-cancerous conditions, such as cysts. It is important for women to get regular mammograms so that any calcifications detected can be monitored over time. If any changes are detected in the size, shape, or number of calcifications, then further diagnostic testing may be recommended.
