Short-term Effects of Stress

1. Anxiety: Feeling of uneasiness, fear, or worry that is usually accompanied by physical sensations, such as a racing heart, trembling, and feeling weak or tired.

2. Depression: A feeling of sadness or hopelessness that interferes with daily life.

3. Irritability: Being easily annoyed and quick to become angry.

Long-term Effects of Stress

1. Cardiovascular Disease: Chronic stress can cause diseases of the heart and blood vessels, such as high blood pressure, coronary artery disease, and stroke.

2. Immune System Dysfunction: Stress hormones can suppress the immune system, making it more difficult for the body to fight off colds, flu, and other infections.

3. Gastrointestinal Issues: Stress can lead to digestive problems, such as irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), ulcers, indigestion, and nausea.

In the short-term, stress can lead to physical issues such as headaches, stomachaches, chest pains, and a weakened immune system. Long-term stress can have more serious effects, including an increased risk of heart disease, depression, and anxiety. Stress can also cause changes in behavior, such as sleeping too much or too little, overeating, or relying on drugs or alcohol to cope. In addition, chronic stress can cause cognitive problems, such as difficulty concentrating or making decisions. It can also cause emotional issues, such as mood swings, feeling overwhelmed, and feeling disconnected from friends or family. Ultimately, if left untreated, stress can have detrimental effects on your physical and mental health.
