Symptoms of Blocked Arteries

The most common symptom of blocked arteries is chest pain. This pain is caused by the reduced flow of oxygen-rich blood to the heart muscle due to the blockage. Other symptoms can include pain in the shoulder, arms, neck, jaw, or back; shortness of breath; nausea; and dizziness. In some cases, the only symptom may be an abnormal heartbeat.

Diagnosis

In order to diagnose blocked arteries, a doctor will take a medical history and perform a physical examination. Other tests may include an electrocardiogram (ECG), angiography, and coronary computed tomography (CT) scan.

Treatment

The primary treatment for blocked arteries is lifestyle modification, such as eating a healthy diet, exercising regularly, and quitting smoking. In some cases, medications such as statins and blood thinners may be prescribed to reduce the risk of a heart attack or stroke. In severe cases, surgery may be necessary to open the blocked artery.

Blocked arteries can cause a range of symptoms, depending on where the blockage is located. These can include chest pain, shortness of breath, pain in the arms or legs, dizziness, and fatigue. Additionally, blocked arteries can lead to stroke, heart attack, or aneurysm. If you experience any of these symptoms, it is important to seek medical attention immediately. Be sure to inform your doctor of any symptoms you are experiencing, as well as any risk factors you have for blocked arteries.

The symptoms of blocked arteries can vary depending on the location of the blockage, as well as the severity. Generally, the most common symptoms of blocked arteries include chest pain, shortness of breath, fatigue, and/or dizziness.

Chest pain is the most common symptom of blocked arteries and is often described as a squeezing or pressure in the center of the chest. This type of chest pain is usually caused by not enough oxygen-rich blood reaching the heart. Shortness of breath is often a symptom of blocked arteries, as the heart is not getting enough oxygen-rich blood to function properly.

Fatigue, or feeling tired, is another common symptom of blocked arteries. As the heart is not able to pump enough oxygen-rich blood to the body, this can cause the body to feel tired and weak. Additionally, dizziness may occur due to decreased blood flow to the brain.

Aside from the above mentioned symptoms, some people may experience numbness or tingling in the extremities, heart palpitations, and/or nausea. In more severe cases, a person may experience a heart attack or stroke. If you experience any of these symptoms, it is important to seek medical attention as soon as possible.
