Hello everyone!

I'm hoping to get some help about panic disorder and the age group it affects. Does anyone have any experience or knowledge regarding what age group is most affected by panic disorder? I know that it can affect anyone, regardless of age, but I'm interested in hearing if there are specific age groups that are more at risk than others.

Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated!

Thank you.

Panic disorder can affect people of any age, from childhood to old age. However, it typically begins in late adolescence or early adulthood. According to the Anxiety and Depression Association of America, the average age of onset is 25 years old.

Symptoms of Panic Disorder

Panic disorder is marked by sudden and unexpected panic attacks. During a panic attack, the person may experience a racing heart, difficulty breathing, sweating, dizziness, chest pain, or a feeling of impending doom. In some cases, a person experiencing a panic attack may think they are having a heart attack or that they are dying.

Risk Factors for Panic Disorder

There are several factors that may increase the risk of developing panic disorder, such as a family history of anxiety disorders, a history of trauma or abuse, a history of drug or alcohol abuse, and certain personality traits.

Diagnosis of Panic Disorder

If you think you may have panic disorder, it is important to talk to your doctor. Your doctor will conduct a physical exam and ask questions about your symptoms, medical history, and lifestyle.

Treatment for Panic Disorder

Treatment for panic disorder typically includes a combination of psychotherapy and medication. Cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) is the most common type of psychotherapy used to treat panic disorder. Medications such as antidepressants and anti-anxiety medications may also be used to help manage symptoms.
