"Hi everyone,

I'm new to this forum and I'm hoping someone can help me out. I'm trying to find out how long someone can live with untreated soft tissue sarcoma. Does anyone have any experience with this or know anyone who has dealt with it? I would really appreciate any information or advice.

The prognosis of soft tissue sarcoma greatly depends on the stage at which the cancer is diagnosed. Without treatment, the average life expectancy of a person with soft tissue sarcoma is generally two to three years. However, in some cases, life expectancy can be much longer.

Diagnosis and Staging

The diagnosis of soft tissue sarcoma is based on the results of a biopsy. The biopsy will determine the type of sarcoma, the size of the tumor, and if it has spread to other organs or tissues. The stage of the cancer is determined by the results of imaging tests, such as CT scans or MRI scans.

Treatments for Soft Tissue Sarcoma

Treatment for soft tissue sarcoma typically includes surgery, chemotherapy, and/or radiation therapy. The type of treatment used depends on the type of sarcoma, its size, and whether or not it has spread to other organs or tissues. Surgery is usually the first line of treatment for soft tissue sarcoma. The goal of surgery is to remove the tumor as completely as possible. Radiation therapy may be used after surgery to kill any remaining cancer cells. Chemotherapy is often used in combination with radiation therapy to kill cancer cells that may have spread to other parts of the body.

How Long Can You Live with Untreated Soft Tissue Sarcoma?

Without treatment, the average life expectancy of a person with soft tissue sarcoma is generally two to three years. However, in some cases, life expectancy can be much longer. Factors that can affect life expectancy include the type of sarcoma, its size, and if it has spread to other organs or tissues.

It is important to note that with early diagnosis and treatment, the prognosis for soft tissue sarcoma can be much better. Therefore, it is important to discuss any suspicious lumps or bumps with your doctor as soon as possible.

Unfortunately, the answer to this question is not clear-cut. Many factors can affect how long a person can live with untreated soft tissue sarcoma, including the type and stage of the cancer, the size and location of the tumor, the person's overall health and age, and the response of the cancer to treatments. Without treatment, sarcomas can continue to grow and spread, and the prognosis is usually poor. In some cases, untreated soft tissue sarcoma can be fatal within a few months. However, it's important to note that treatment options may be available and can often improve a person's prognosis significantly.

Without treatment, soft tissue sarcoma can be a life-threatening condition. The prognosis for patients with untreated soft tissue sarcoma depends on several factors, such as the type of sarcoma, the size of the tumor, and its location. On average, those who don’t receive treatment for soft tissue sarcoma can expect to live for only a few months.

In some cases, the tumor may be small and remain localized. In these cases, the tumor may remain undetected and undiagnosed for a long period of time, and life expectancy may reach up to one year or longer.

When the tumor is larger and spreads to other parts of the body, life expectancy is much shorter. With metastasis, the tumor can spread to other organs, and the patient’s life expectancy is often reduced to months or weeks. The effects of the tumor will depend on its size, location, and the extent to which it has spread.

The best prognosis for soft tissue sarcoma is with early detection and treatment. If the tumor is detected and treated early, the chances of survival are greatly increased. This is why it is important to be aware of any changes or symptoms in the body, and to seek medical help as soon as possible.

In conclusion, untreated soft tissue sarcoma can have a very poor prognosis and life expectancy can be measured in months or weeks. However, with early detection and treatment, the chances of survival are greatly increased.

Soft tissue sarcomas are very serious and can be life-threatening if left untreated. Unfortunately, the amount of time a person can live with untreated soft tissue sarcoma varies greatly depending on the size and location of the tumor, as well as the aggressiveness of the cancer. In some cases, a person may live many years, while in others, the cancer may quickly spread and a person may live only a few months. It is essential to seek medical attention and treatment as soon as possible in order to increase the chances of survival and lead a healthier life.
