Treatment Options

The most common treatments for a cyst at the root of a tooth include root canal therapy, surgical removal of the cyst, and medication.

Root Canal Therapy
Root canal therapy is a procedure that removes the diseased or infected tissue from the root of a tooth. The procedure involves removing the infected tissue and filling the area with a material such as gutta-percha. This helps to restore the health of the tooth and prevent further infection.

Surgical Removal
In some cases, the cyst may be too large or too deeply rooted to be treated with root canal therapy. In these cases, surgical removal of the cyst may be recommended. The procedure involves making an incision in the gums and cutting away the cyst.

Medication
In some cases, the cyst may not be severe enough to require surgery. In these cases, medication may be prescribed to help reduce the size of the cyst. Medication may include antibiotics, anti-inflammatory medications, and other medications to help reduce swelling and inflammation.

A cyst at the root of a tooth can generally be treated with a surgical procedure called a root resection. During this procedure, the cyst is removed in its entirety, along with a portion of the root, to ensure that no remaining cells are left behind. Depending on the size and severity of the cyst, the dentist may also recommend filling the affected area with a bone graft to prevent further infection. Additionally, the patient may need to take antibiotics to help fight off any infection that may have resulted from the cyst.

A cyst at the root of a tooth is typically treated by surgically removing the cyst and surrounding tissue. Depending on the severity of the cyst, the tooth may need to be extracted to ensure complete removal of the cyst. The dentist may first attempt to clean out the cyst using root canal therapy or microscopic surgery followed by a filling. If the cyst is too deep or large to be filled, however, the tooth must be extracted and the cyst will be removed along with it. Depending on the size and location of the cyst, the dentist may need to use specialized instruments to ensure the cyst is removed in its entirety.

Cysts at the root of a tooth are typically treated by a root canal procedure. This involves the removal of the affected area, the filling of the cavity, and the sealing of the tooth. In some cases, a crown may be needed to ensure the tooth is adequately protected from further damage. In cases where the cyst is severe, the tooth may need to be extracted.
