Signs and Symptoms of a Struggling Pancreas

One of the most common signs of a struggling pancreas is abdominal pain. This pain may be dull or sharp and may be accompanied by nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea. Other signs and symptoms of a struggling pancreas may include:

Jaundice: Jaundice is a yellowing of the skin and eyes that can occur when the pancreas is not producing enough of the enzymes needed to digest food.

Weight loss: Unexplained weight loss can be a sign of a struggling pancreas.

Loss of appetite: The pancreas helps to regulate appetite, so a decrease in appetite can be a sign of a struggling pancreas.

Fatigue: If the pancreas is not working properly, it can cause fatigue.

Changes in urine or stool color: Changes in the color of urine or stool can be a sign of a struggling pancreas.

Diagnosing a Struggling Pancreas

If you experience any of the above symptoms, it is important to see your doctor. Your doctor may order tests such as a blood test, an abdominal ultrasound, or a CT scan to diagnose a struggling pancreas.

Treatment for a Struggling Pancreas

Treatment for a struggling pancreas will depend on the underlying cause. In some cases, treatment may involve medications or lifestyle changes. In other cases, surgery may be necessary to remove part or all of the pancreas.

The most common sign that your pancreas is struggling is abdominal pain that may radiate to your back. Other symptoms include nausea, vomiting, weight loss, and yellow discoloration of the skin and eyes (jaundice). If you are experiencing any of these symptoms, it is important to visit your doctor for a physical examination and some tests to determine the cause. It is also important to adopt a healthy lifestyle, including eating a balanced diet, exercising regularly, and quitting smoking, to help support your pancreas.
