Do people with androgen insensitivity produce sperm?
Androgen Insensitivity Syndrome (AIS)
Androgen insensitivity syndrome (AIS) is a genetic condition that affects the development of male sexual characteristics. People with AIS are born with XY chromosomes, which are normally associated with male sex, but are insensitive to androgens, a type of sex hormone. As a result, they can develop either male or female physical characteristics, depending on the severity of the condition.
Sperm Production
The production of sperm is dependent on androgens, so people with AIS generally do not produce sperm. However, there are some exceptions. People with partial AIS, a milder form of the condition, may produce low levels of sperm. Additionally, some people with complete AIS may still be able to produce sperm if they have been treated with testosterone replacement therapy.
