Hello everyone,

I'm a 21 year old and I'm worried that I might have periodontitis. I've been having pain in my gums and bleeding when I brush my teeth. Is it possible for someone my age to have periodontitis? Does anyone here have any experience with this? I would really appreciate any advice or information that anyone can provide.

Yes, a 21 year old can have periodontitis. Periodontitis is caused by bacteria that accumulate in plaque and tartar on the teeth, which can lead to the destruction of the gums and bone around the teeth. This disease is most common in adults aged 30 and over, but can occur at any age. Regular dental checkups and good oral hygiene are the best way to prevent periodontitis. If the condition is not treated, it can lead to tooth loss and other serious health problems.

Yes, a 21 year old can have periodontitis. Periodontitis is an advanced form of gum disease that affects the tissues around and supporting the teeth.

Periodontitis is caused by a buildup of plaque and bacteria on the teeth, which leads to the destruction of the soft tissue and bone that support the teeth. Without proper treatment, periodontitis can cause tooth loss.

The risk of periodontitis increases with age, but that doesn't mean that a 21 year old can't develop the disease. Smoking, poor oral hygiene, genetics, and certain medical conditions can all increase the risk of periodontitis, regardless of age.

If you are 21 years old and have any of the following symptoms, you should see a dentist right away: red, swollen, tender gums; gums that bleed when you brush or floss; receding gums; loose teeth; persistent bad breath; changes in the way your teeth fit together when you bite; or changes in the fit of partial dentures.

Early diagnosis and treatment of periodontitis is key to preventing tooth loss and other dental problems. Your dentist can provide you with a customized treatment plan to help manage periodontitis and keep your teeth and gums healthy.
