"I'm hoping someone can help me with this question: why not just remove the pancreas? I'm looking for an answer to this because I'm trying to understand the importance of the pancreas to the body and why simply removing it isn't a viable solution. I'm hoping to get some insight from other people who may have more knowledge on the subject.

Risks of Pancreas Removal

Pancreas removal is a major surgery, and as such carries a certain degree of risk. Complications can include bleeding, infections, and damage to surrounding organs. The pancreas is also responsible for producing insulin and hormones that help regulate blood sugar and digestion, so removing the pancreas can lead to diabetes and digestive issues. Additionally, there can be long-term risks such as malnutrition, kidney failure, and even death. It is important to discuss all risks and benefits with your doctor before undergoing any such surgery.
