Symptoms of Chronic Bronchitis
Chronic bronchitis is a long-term condition in which the bronchial tubes become inflamed and produce excessive amounts of mucus. Common symptoms of chronic bronchitis include difficulty breathing, wheezing, coughing, chest tightness, and a general feeling of fatigue.
Causes of Chronic Bronchitis
Chronic bronchitis is often caused by exposure to air pollutants or other irritants, such as cigarette smoke, dust, and fumes. People who suffer from allergies or asthma are also at a higher risk of developing chronic bronchitis.
Treatment of Chronic Bronchitis
The primary goal of treatment for chronic bronchitis is to reduce the symptoms and improve breathing. This can be done through a combination of lifestyle changes, such as quitting smoking, avoiding exposure to pollutants and irritants, and taking medication to reduce inflammation and open the airways. In some cases, a respiratory therapist may be needed to help with breathing exercises. If the bronchitis is caused by an infection, antibiotics may also be prescribed.
