Why is LDH released

I'm trying to understand why LDH is released and was wondering if anyone could provide some insight. I've read that LDH is an enzyme that is released by cells when they are damaged or stressed, but I'm not sure what the full implications of this are.

Lactate dehydrogenase (LDH) is released into the bloodstream when cells are damaged or destroyed. LDH is an enzyme that is found in all body tissues and helps the body break down sugar into energy.
