Why do I only look good after working out

I'm looking for some help and advice from people who are familiar with working out and fitness. Recently I've noticed that I only look good after I've been working out - my body looks toned, my skin is brighter, and I feel more confident and attractive. But then the effects seem to fade away once I take a break from the gym.
