Hi everyone,

I'm looking for some help understanding who is most commonly affected by ALS. I know that it's a disease that impacts the brain and spinal cord, but I'm not sure what the demographics are of those who are most commonly afflicted. Has anyone else encountered this information before, or have any resources they can point me towards? Any knowledge or advice would be greatly appreciated.

Who Most Commonly Gets ALS

Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), also known as Lou Gehrig's disease, is a progressive neurodegenerative disease that affects nerve cells in the brain and the spinal cord. As motor neurons die, the ability of the brain to initiate and control muscle movement is lost. With voluntary muscle action progressively affected, patients in the later stages of the disease may become totally paralyzed.

The majority of people with ALS are between the ages of 40 and 70, with an average age of 55 at the time of diagnosis. However, cases of the disease do occur in persons in their twenties and thirties. Men are affected more often than women. Approximately 20 percent of people with ALS have a family history of the disease.

ALS is a rare disorder, with estimates of its prevalence ranging from 2 to 12 cases per 100,000 people. In the United States, an estimated 5,000 to 6,000 people are diagnosed with ALS each year.

ALS is most commonly found in adults age 40 and older, and is more prevalent in men than women. It can also be found in younger individuals, however it is rare. The risk of developing ALS increases with age, with the highest risk occurring between ages 55 and 75. Additionally, veterans are twice as likely to get ALS than the general population. While the cause of ALS is unknown, it is believed to be caused by a combination of genetic and environmental factors.

ALS, or amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, is a neurological disorder that affects the nerve cells in the brain and spinal cord. It causes muscle weakness, twitching, and eventually complete paralysis. The cause of ALS is not known, but it is believed to involve a combination of genetic and environmental factors. The most commonly affected group are those over the age of 60, although it can occur in people of any age. Unfortunately, there is no known cure for ALS, though treatments can help slow the progression of the disease.

Q: Who is most commonly affected by ALS?

A: ALS (amyotrophic lateral sclerosis) is an incurable, progressive neurodegenerative disorder that affects the nerve cells in the brain and spinal cord, leading to muscle weakness and eventual paralysis. It is estimated that ALS affects 15 out of every 100,000 people. Although ALS can affect people of any age, it is most commonly seen in individuals between the ages of 40 and 70, and is slightly more common in men than in women. It is also more common among Caucasians than among other ethnic groups.

"What are the most common causes of ALS?"

The most common causes of ALS are unknown, however there are some known risk factors that can increase the likelihood of developing the disease. These include age, gender, family history, and lifestyle factors such as smoking and exposure to certain toxins. Additionally, certain genetic mutations are associated with an increased risk of developing ALS.
