Who is the living prophet

I'm looking for some help understanding who the living prophet is. I've heard the term before but I'm not really sure what it means. Can someone explain it to me? Is there a specific scripture that talks about it? What is the responsibility of the living prophet? Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated.

The living prophet is the President of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. The current living prophet is President Russell M. Nelson. President Nelson was called to be the prophet, seer, and revelator of the Church on January 14, 2018.
