Hello everyone,

I'm new to this forum and I'm hoping for some help. I'm trying to understand which is more specific for acute pancreatitis, amylase or lipase? I know that both of these enzymes are associated with pancreatitis, but I'm not sure which is more specific. Does anyone have any insight on this? I'd really appreciate the help.

Subtitle: Acute Pancreatitis

Acute pancreatitis is a condition in which the pancreas becomes inflamed and causes pain and other symptoms. When diagnosing acute pancreatitis, two enzymes are measured: amylase and lipase.

Amylase is an enzyme produced by the pancreas and salivary glands. It is used to break down carbohydrates to release energy. It is one of the most commonly used markers in diagnosing acute pancreatitis.

Lipase is an enzyme produced by the pancreas. It is used to break down fats to release energy. It is more specific for acute pancreatitis than amylase, which makes it more reliable for making a diagnosis.
