Blood Groups Explained
Blood groups, also known as ABO systems, are determined by the presence or absence of certain antigens on the surface of red blood cells. The ABO system has four categories: A, B, AB, and O. Each type of blood is determined by the presence or absence of two antigens, A and B.
Type A Blood
Type A blood is the most common type and is characterized by the presence of the A antigen on red blood cells. People with type A blood can donate to other type A or type AB individuals.
Type B Blood
Type B blood has the B antigen on red blood cells. People with type B blood can donate to other type B or type AB individuals.
Type AB Blood
Type AB blood has both the A and B antigens on red blood cells. People with type AB blood can donate to individuals with type A, B, or AB blood.
Type O Blood
Type O blood does not have either of the antigens and is considered the universal donor. People with type O blood can donate to any other type of blood.
Which Blood Group is the Strongest?
There is no scientific evidence that any specific blood type is stronger or more resistant than any other. All blood types are equally capable of resisting infection and disease. Therefore, no single blood type can be considered the strongest.
