AST (Aspartate Aminotransferase) is an enzyme found primarily in the liver, heart, and kidney tissues. It is also found in smaller amounts in other tissues, such as the pancreas, muscles, and brain. AST plays a key role in the body's metabolism, helping to convert certain amino acids into energy. It is also involved in the production of certain hormones, and it helps to regulate blood sugar levels.
