When is metastasis known

Hello everyone,

I'm looking for help understanding when metastasis is known. I know that it is the spread of cancer from one part of the body to another, but I'm wondering when it is usually diagnosed in a patient? Are there any tests or symptoms that can diagnose metastasis before it spreads too far? Any advice or information on this topic would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance for any help.

Metastasis is the spread of cancer from one part of the body to another. It is usually the last stage of cancer and is usually known when a patient has a scan or biopsy that shows the cancer has spread to a different part of the body. Metastatic cancer is usually more difficult to treat than localized cancer, and the prognosis is usually poorer. While it is not possible to predict the specifics of a person's cancer progression, metastasis is usually associated with a poorer prognosis and a shorter life expectancy.
