Adenovirus infections are common and can occur at any time of the year. They most often occur in the late winter and early spring months, however, due to increased contact with others during cold and flu season.
Transmission
Adenoviruses are transmitted through direct contact with an infected person, through contact with an object or surface contaminated with the virus, or through the air.
Symptoms
Common symptoms of adenovirus infection include fever, sore throat, cough, and conjunctivitis (pink eye). Other symptoms may include abdominal pain, diarrhea, and vomiting.
Treatment
Most adenovirus infections do not require treatment, as the body's immune system usually clears the virus without medical intervention. However, in more severe cases, antiviral medications may be prescribed.
