Symptoms of Bladder Cancer
The most common early symptom of bladder cancer is blood in the urine (known as hematuria). Other symptoms of bladder cancer can include:
• Pain or burning sensation during urination
• Frequent urination
• Urgent need to urinate
• Difficulty starting or stopping urination
• Low back pain
• Pelvic pain
Diagnosis of Bladder Cancer
If you experience any of the above-mentioned symptoms, it is important that you speak to your doctor. Your doctor may order a urine test to check for blood in your urine. If the test results are positive, further tests, such as a cystoscopy, will be recommended to diagnose bladder cancer.
During a cystoscopy, a small tube with a camera on the end of it will be inserted into the bladder to look for any abnormal growths. If any are found, a biopsy will be taken and sent for further testing.
Treatment of Bladder Cancer
Treatment for bladder cancer is dependent upon the stage of the cancer. Treatment options may include surgery, chemotherapy, radiation, or a combination of these. Your doctor will be able to discuss the best treatment plan for you.
