Hi everyone,

I'm looking for some help on understanding what test is elevated in pancreatitis. Recently, I've been experiencing some symptoms that could be related to pancreatitis and my doctor suggested I get some tests done. I'm curious to know which tests are usually done to diagnose this condition and what values of those tests are a sign of pancreatitis.

Has anyone else had similar experiences or know of any good resources I could look into? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Blood tests are used to diagnose pancreatitis and monitor its progression. They detect elevated levels of enzymes that are released when the pancreas becomes inflamed. The most common tests to detect pancreatitis are:

Amylase: Amylase is an enzyme in the pancreas that helps break down food. Elevated levels of amylase in the blood indicate pancreatitis.

Lipase: Lipase is an enzyme in the pancreas that helps break down fat. Elevated levels of lipase in the blood indicate pancreatitis.

Alkaline Phosphatase: Alkaline phosphatase is an enzyme that helps break down proteins. Elevated levels of alkaline phosphatase in the blood indicate pancreatitis.

Bilirubin: Bilirubin is a waste product produced by the liver. Elevated levels of bilirubin in the blood indicate pancreatitis.
