Hello everyone. I'm looking for help understanding what test confirms chronic pancreatitis. I have heard that a combination of medical history, physical examination, and laboratory measurements are used to diagnose chronic pancreatitis but I'm not sure what tests are used specifically.

Cevap:
The definitive test for chronic pancreatitis is an endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography (ERCP). During this procedure, a thin tube with a light and camera is inserted through the mouth, down the throat, and into the duodenum. This allows the doctor to view the pancreatic ducts and the bile ducts. If there is any blockage or narrowing, the doctor can take samples for further testing. If the ERCP shows any damage to the pancreas, this can confirm a diagnosis of chronic pancreatitis. Other tests that may be used to confirm chronic pancreatitis include imaging tests, such as an abdominal ultrasound, CT scan, or MRI, and blood tests.
