"Hi everyone, I'm looking for some help. I've been told I may have ankylosing spondylitis and I'm looking to find out what test I can take to confirm this diagnosis. Does anyone know what test confirms ankylosing spondylitis or can anyone point me in the right direction to find out? I'm hoping to get an answer soon so I can start to get the help I need. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Cevap:

The most common test used to confirm ankylosing spondylitis is an X-ray of the spine and pelvis. This type of imaging test can help to detect any changes in the shape of the bones, such as the fusion of the vertebrae that can occur with ankylosing spondylitis. A blood test, such as the HLA-B27 antigen test, can also be used to help diagnose the condition. Finally, a doctor may also use an MRI or CT scan to help diagnose ankylosing spondylitis.

Ankylosing spondylitis is a form of chronic inflammatory arthritis that affects the spine. The most common test used to diagnose ankylosing spondylitis is an X-ray to check for signs of the condition such as fused vertebrae, or narrowing of the space between the vertebrae. Other tests that may be used include blood tests, MRI scans to check for any changes in the spine, and CT scans to check for any damage to the spinal ligaments. In some cases a physical examination may be used to assess for any signs of the condition.

Ankylosing spondylitis is a type of arthritis that primarily affects the spine. Diagnosis is usually confirmed through a combination of physical exams, imaging studies, and laboratory tests. The most commonly used laboratory test is the HLA-B27 antigen test, which detects the presence of the antigen in the patient's blood. Other tests that may be used include an erythrocyte sedimentation rate (ESR) test to measure inflammation, and a C-reactive protein (CRP) test to measure the level of inflammation. Imaging studies such as an X-ray, computed tomography (CT) scan, and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) may be used to detect changes in the spine that are associated with ankylosing spondylitis. Finally, a doctor may perform a physical exam to check for pain and stiffness in the spine or other areas of the body.

A definitive diagnosis of ankylosing spondylitis requires the use of imaging tests such as X-rays, CT scans, MRI scans, and bone scans. A spine specialist may also use a combination of physical examinations and blood tests to confirm the diagnosis.
