People with ADHD can be easily overwhelmed by many factors in daily life. Some of the most common stressors include an inability to focus on tasks, difficulty managing time, excessive worry or anxiety, overstimulation from loud noises or bright lights, or feeling overwhelmed by too many tasks or obligations. Additionally, many people with ADHD may feel overwhelmed by social pressures, such as feeling like they’re not “measuring up” to their peers or having trouble making and keeping friends. All of these can be difficult to manage and can leave people feeling stressed and overwhelmed.

Q: How do I deal with unexpected changes to my routine?

A: Unanticipated changes to one's routine can be incredibly stressful, particularly for those with ADHD. To best manage it, it is helpful to try and build a sense of control by planning ahead. Consider writing out a list of the tasks you need to do, breaking them down into manageable chunks. Additionally, try to focus on the potential positive outcomes of the changes, rather than the anxiety it has caused. Lastly, it can be helpful to talk to a trusted friend or professional who can provide further support.
