Symptoms of Liver Pain
Liver pain can take many forms, ranging from a dull, constant ache to a sudden, sharp pain. The pain may be felt in the upper right abdominal area, where the liver is located. Other symptoms that may accompany liver pain include:
• Nausea
• Vomiting
• Fever
• Fatigue
• Loss of appetite
• Yellowing of the skin or eyes (jaundice)
• Dark urine
• Abdominal swelling
• Itching
Causes of Liver Pain
Liver pain can be caused by a variety of conditions, including:
• Cirrhosis: Cirrhosis is a condition in which the liver is damaged and scarred, which can cause pain in the upper right abdomen.
• Hepatitis: Viral infections such as hepatitis A, B and C can cause inflammation of the liver, leading to pain in the upper right abdomen.
• Gallstones: Gallstones are hardened deposits of bile that can become lodged in the gallbladder or bile ducts, causing severe pain in the upper right abdomen.
• Alcoholism: Chronic alcohol consumption can cause liver inflammation and pain.
• Liver Cancer: Liver cancer can cause pain in the upper right abdomen.
• Pancreatitis: Inflammation of the pancreas can cause pain that radiates to the upper right abdomen.
