Hello everyone,

I was recently diagnosed with an AVM and I'm looking for advice on what activities I should avoid. Does anyone have any experience with this condition? Are there any activities that I should be avoiding, or any lifestyle changes I should make to help manage my AVM? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

• Avoid Caffeinated Beverages: Caffeinated beverages such as coffee, tea, and energy drinks can increase the risk of bleeding in people with an AVM and should be avoided.

• Avoid Certain Foods: Certain foods can increase the risk of bleeding in people with an AVM. These foods include leafy green vegetables, mushrooms, and foods high in vitamin K.

• Avoid Contact Sports: Contact sports such as football, hockey, wrestling, and boxing can increase the risk of bleeding in people with an AVM and should be avoided.

If you have an AVM, it is important to take steps to lower your risk of complications. Avoiding activities that put strain on the vascular system is key. This includes activities that involve heavy lifting, straining, and bending. Additionally, avoid contact sports and activities that involve a lot of bouncing or jerking motions. Also, avoid activities that increase your risk of falling or head injuries, such as skateboarding or skiing. Finally, it is important to take steps to reduce your stress levels. Prolonged stress can cause your blood pressure to increase, which can put strain on the AVM.

If you have an AVM, it is important to avoid activities that may increase your risk of bleeding or stroke. These activities include contact sports such as football or hockey, vigorous exercise, heavy lifting, and any activity that may lead to a fall or injury. It is also important to avoid smoking, drinking alcohol, and eating a diet that is high in fat or salt. If your doctor has prescribed medication, you should take the medication as prescribed and follow any additional instructions given by your doctor. Additionally, you should always wear a helmet when riding a bike or motorcycle and be sure to avoid activities that can cause a sudden increase in blood pressure.

Q: What should I stay away from if I have an AVM?

If you have an AVM, it is important to take extra precautions and avoid activities that might put you at risk for injury or increase your risk of bleeding. Avoid contact sports or activities that could result in a blow to the head, neck, or chest. In addition, avoid activities that involve rapid twisting, turning, or bending of the body, such as skiing or gymnastics. You should also avoid activities that involve heavy lifting or straining, such as lifting weights. Finally, avoid smoking or drinking alcohol, as these can increase your risk of bleeding. It is important to talk to your doctor about any activities you are considering and to follow their advice to ensure your safety.
