Avoiding Smoking and Pollutants

When someone has acute bronchitis, it is important to avoid smoking and other pollutants in order to help reduce the symptoms and speed up the healing process. Smoking irritates the bronchial tubes and can worsen the condition. It is also important to stay away from any type of air pollutants, such as paint fumes, dust or chemical fumes, which can further irritate the lungs.

Avoiding Certain Foods and Drinks

Certain foods and drinks can also worsen the symptoms of bronchitis. Caffeine, dairy products, fried foods and spicy foods should all be avoided as they can cause mucus to thicken and make it harder for the body to clear the bronchial tubes. Alcohol should also be avoided as it can irritate the lungs.

Avoiding Overexertion

It is important to avoid overexertion when someone has acute bronchitis. This can include activities such as strenuous exercise, which can cause the lungs to become irritated. It is also important to get plenty of rest in order to give the body the time to heal.

Additionally, strenuous exercise and activities that require a lot of exertion should be avoided, as this can cause further inflammation in your airways. Finally, it is important to avoid contact with anyone who has a cold or other respiratory infection, as this could increase your risk of developing a secondary infection.
