I'm hoping someone can help me out here. I'm trying to find out what percentage of people have HLA-B27. I'm not sure if it's something that's common or if it's rare. Does anyone have any knowledge or experience with this? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Subtitle: About HLA-B27

HLA-B27 is a protein found on the surface of most people's cells. It is part of the body's immune system, and is involved in the recognition of foreign molecules and the regulation of the body's immune response. HLA-B27 is most commonly found in people of European descent, though it is also found in other ethnic groups. It is estimated that about 8-10% of the population has this protein.

People with HLA-B27 are more likely to develop certain autoimmune diseases, such as ankylosing spondylitis, psoriatic arthritis, reactive arthritis, and inflammatory bowel disease. However, the presence of the protein does not guarantee that a person will develop one of these conditions. In addition, many people who have HLA-B27 do not develop any of these conditions.

Subtitle: Testing for HLA-B27

HLA-B27 can be detected through a blood test. This test can help doctors diagnose and monitor autoimmune diseases. It is usually ordered when a patient has symptoms that could be related to one of these conditions. The test is also used to monitor the effectiveness of treatments for autoimmune diseases.

The exact percentage of people who have HLA-B27 is not known, but it is believed to be around 8-10% of the general population. This is because the gene is considered relatively rare since it is mostly inherited from parents. HLA-B27 can be tested for using a blood test, however it is most often associated with the autoimmune condition Ankylosing Spondylitis. Therefore, a higher percentage of people with this condition will have the gene than the general population.

HLA-B27 is a protein found on the surface of cells in the human body. It is estimated that approximately 8-10% of the world’s population carries the gene for this protein. This percentage is slightly higher in individuals of European descent, and lower in individuals of African and Asian descent. Additionally, it is much more common in certain ethnic groups, such as Ashkenazi Jews, than others. It is thought that the HLA-B27 protein plays an important role in the development of autoimmune disorders such as ankylosing spondylitis, psoriatic arthritis, and reactive arthritis.

Most people do not have the HLA-B27 gene, as it is relatively rare. Only 7-8 percent of the general population carries the gene, and it is most common in people of Northern European descent. The gene is also more common in those with certain autoimmune conditions such as ankylosing spondylitis, psoriasis, and Crohn's disease. It is estimated that as much as 80 percent of those with ankylosing spondylitis have the HLA-B27 gene. However, it is important to note that having the gene does not guarantee a person will develop any of the aforementioned conditions. In fact, it is estimated that only 20-25 percent of those with the gene will ever develop any of the conditions.

According to recent studies, HLA-B27 is found in approximately 8% of the general population. This percentage does vary significantly depending on ethnicity, though, with estimates ranging from 2% to 13.5%.
