What organ does AST affect

I'm hoping to get some help from fellow users about this topic. I'm wondering what organ AST (Aspartate Aminotransferase) affects? I understand it is connected to liver health, but I'm not sure what the exact organ is or how it is affected. Does anyone have any insight on this? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

AST (aspartate aminotransferase) is an enzyme mainly found in the liver and heart. It is released into the bloodstream when the liver or heart is damaged or inflamed. AST is used as a biomarker to help diagnose liver conditions such as hepatitis, cirrhosis, and liver damage due to alcohol consumption. Elevated levels of AST can also indicate heart muscle damage, often caused by a heart attack.
