There are several medications that can be used for arterial thrombosis, including anticoagulants, antiplatelet drugs, thrombolytics, and vasodilators.
Anticoagulants
Anticoagulants are medications that are used to decrease the risk of blood clots. They work by preventing the formation of new clots and by breaking up existing clots. The most commonly used anticoagulants are warfarin, aspirin, and heparin. Warfarin is the most effective anticoagulant for arterial thrombosis, while aspirin and heparin are less effective but have fewer side effects.
Antiplatelet Drugs
Antiplatelet drugs are medications that are used to reduce the risk of blood clots. They work by preventing the formation of new clots and by breaking up existing clots. The most commonly used antiplatelet drugs are clopidogrel, ticlopidine, and dipyridamole.
Thrombolytics
Thrombolytics are medications that are used to break up existing blood clots. They work by dissolving the clot and allowing blood flow to resume. The most commonly used thrombolytics are alteplase, streptokinase, and urokinase.
Vasodilators
Vasodilators are medications that are used to widen blood vessels and improve blood flow. They work by relaxing the walls of the blood vessels, allowing more blood to flow through them. The most commonly used vasodilators are nitrates, calcium channel blockers, and angiotensin-converting enzyme (ACE) inhibitors.
