Lung Cancer-Related Back Pain

Lung cancer can cause a wide range of back pain symptoms, depending on the location and type of cancer. The most common symptom is a dull ache in the chest or upper back. This type of pain is usually caused by the tumor pressing on the spine or ribs. Other symptoms include sharp or burning pain, as well as pain that radiates down the arms or legs. In rare cases, lung cancer can cause nerve damage, which can result in chronic pain.

Diagnosis and Treatment of Back Pain Caused by Lung Cancer

If you are experiencing back pain that is related to lung cancer, your doctor will need to perform a physical examination and a series of imaging tests, such as X-rays, CT scans, and MRI scans, to confirm the diagnosis. Treatment will depend on the type and stage of cancer, but it may include chemotherapy, radiation, or surgery. In some cases, medications may be used to help manage the pain.
