Homogentisate is also known as 2,5-dihydroxybenzoic acid, or DHBA. It is an organic compound found in human and animal tissue, as well as other plants and foods. DHBA is an intermediate in the breakdown of the amino acid tyrosine, and is important for the synthesis of melanin. It has also been investigated for its potential antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties. In humans, DHBA is excreted in the urine, and its levels can be used to diagnose certain diseases.

Homogentisate is also known as homogentisic acid or 2,5-dihydroxyphenylacetic acid. It is a type of organic compound that is created when phenylalanine, an essential amino acid, is broken down in the body. Homogentisate is an important part of the biochemical pathway that processes phenylalanine and tyrosine. It is also a key component of the biochemical pathway that produces melanin, a pigment responsible for skin and hair color. Additionally, homogentisate is a metabolite found in certain types of bacteria and fungi.
