I'm looking for help with understanding what the most common complication of neonatal asphyxia is. I'm a nursing student and I'm having difficulty understanding the long-term implications of this condition. Can anyone provide some insight or resources that would help me better understand the consequences of neonatal asphyxia? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

The most common complication of neonatal asphyxia is hypoxic-ischemic encephalopathy (HIE). HIE is a form of brain damage that occurs when an infant’s brain is deprived of oxygen. It can cause long-term neurological problems, including seizures, developmental delays, and cerebral palsy. Other complications of neonatal asphyxia can include respiratory problems, organ damage, infection, and jaundice. Treatment for neonatal asphyxia may include supportive care, such as oxygen therapy and breathing support, to help the infant's body recover.
