Oxford dictionary defines asphyxia as “a condition of severely deficient supply of oxygen to the body that arises from being unable to breathe normally”. It is caused by suffocation, choking, drowning, electric shock, or injury to the respiratory system. It is a life-threatening condition, and can result in death or permanent brain damage.
