I'm hoping to get some help understanding what amylase in a urine test means. I'm not familiar with this term and would like to get a better understanding of what it is and what it could mean if it's present in a urine sample. Does anyone have any insight into this? I'd really appreciate any help or advice that anyone can offer.

Amylase is an enzyme found in the body that helps break down carbohydrates. A urine test for amylase can help diagnose certain types of kidney and pancreatic problems. It can also indicate infection, inflammation, or trauma in the urinary tract. High levels of amylase in the urine may indicate damage or disease in the pancreas, kidneys, or other parts of the urinary tract. Low levels of amylase in the urine may suggest a blockage in the urinary tract.
