Fungal Infections
Athlete's foot is just one type of fungal infection, and there are many others that can affect the feet. Other common fungal infections of the feet include:
Tinea Pedis: Also known as ringworm, this fungal infection is characterized by itchy, red, scaly patches on the feet, usually between the toes. It is highly contagious and can spread quickly from person to person and from one part of the body to another.
Onychomycosis: This infection is caused by a fungus that attacks the nails. Symptoms include thick, discolored, brittle, and crumbling nails. It is often difficult to treat and can recur.
Intertrigo: This is a fungal infection of the skin that occurs where two areas of the body rub against each other, such as between toes or between skin folds. It is characterized by red, itchy, and sometimes painful patches of skin.
Jock Itch: This fungal infection is most common in athletes, hence the name. It is characterized by red, itchy rashes in the groin area. It is highly contagious and can spread quickly from person to person or from one part of the body to another.
Tinea Versicolor: This is a fungal infection of the skin that causes patches of discolored skin. These patches are usually lighter or darker than the surrounding skin and can appear anywhere on the body. It is caused by a type of yeast that occurs naturally on the skin.
