Hello everyone,

I'm new to this forum and I'm hoping to get some help with a question related to ALS. I'm wondering what the first thing people notice when they are diagnosed with ALS? Are there any physical or mental changes that occur early on? Any advice or information you can provide would be greatly appreciated.

Cevap:
People who are diagnosed with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) typically experience a gradual onset of muscle weakness. The first signs of ALS usually involve the muscles controlling movement, such as those in the arms, legs, and face. Some of the most common early symptoms include:

Weakness and Clumsiness
The most common early symptom of ALS is weakness or clumsiness in the arms and legs, as well as difficulty performing activities that require precise movements, such as writing or buttoning a shirt.

Twitching Muscles
Some people with ALS may experience twitching or cramping of muscles, as well as muscle stiffness or tightness (spasticity).

Difficulty Speaking or Swallowing
ALS can cause slurred speech or difficulty speaking, as well as difficulty swallowing (dysphagia).

Breathing Difficulty
As ALS progresses, it can cause difficulty breathing, due to weakening of the muscles that control breathing.

The first thing that people usually notice with ALS is a change in muscle strength and control. This can range from difficulty lifting objects or doing everyday tasks to slurred speech and difficulty swallowing. Other common signs of ALS include muscle twitching, muscle cramps, and unexplained fatigue. In some cases, people may experience numbness or tingling in their hands and feet. As the disease progresses, it can affect the muscles that control breathing, leading to respiratory failure.

The first noticeable symptom of ALS is usually weakness in one limb, or a significant change in muscle tone. This may be a decrease in muscle tone, or an increase in muscle tone. This could be accompanied by clumsiness or a lack of coordination. Other early signs of ALS include twitching or cramping of muscles, slurred speech, difficulty swallowing, and difficulty with writing or performing everyday tasks. If you experience any of these symptoms, it is important to seek medical attention.

The first thing that people usually notice with Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS) is the presence of muscle weakness and/or wasting. This can manifest as slurred speech, difficulty with swallowing, difficulty with fine motor control (such as writing and buttoning a shirt), difficulty with breathing, and/or difficulty with walking. The muscle weakness is progressive, meaning it will worsen over time. In addition to the physical symptoms, people with ALS may experience cognitive changes, such as difficulties with memory, concentration, and communication. As the disease progresses, people may also experience psychological changes and difficulty in decision-making. As ALS progresses, people may experience increasing difficulty with daily activities, such as bathing, dressing, and eating, as well as increased fatigue and respiratory problems.

Q: What is the first thing people notice with ALS?

A: The first sign of ALS is usually weakness in one of the arms, legs, or the muscles of the face. This is usually noticed in the form of tripping, difficulty walking, or difficulty picking up objects. As the disease progresses, other symptoms may become more noticeable, such as muscle twitching, difficulty speaking, and difficulty swallowing. As the disease progresses further, the individual may eventually experience complete paralysis.

"What is the first thing people notice when they are diagnosed with ALS?"

People typically notice difficulty with fine motor skills or muscle weakness as the first sign of ALS. This can manifest in difficulty with activities such as writing, buttoning a shirt, or holding a utensil. Other signs may include slurred speech, difficulty swallowing, or abnormal fatigue while performing tasks.
