Hi everyone,

I am looking for some help regarding the Coombs test for immune mediated haemolytic anemia. I know this is a medical test that is used to detect antibodies in the blood, but I would like to know more about it. Does anyone know exactly what the Coombs test is used to diagnose, and what the results of the test tell us? Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated.

The Coombs test is a laboratory test used to diagnose immune-mediated haemolytic anaemia (IMHA). It is also known as the direct antiglobulin test (DAT). The Coombs test is used to detect the presence of antibodies or complement proteins on the surface of red blood cells. This information can be used to diagnose a variety of conditions, including autoimmune haemolytic anaemia, transfusion reactions, and drug-induced haemolysis. The test can also be used to determine the cause of a red blood cell transfusion reaction.
